Trading and security precautions
Trading
When your trade is entered, you will be asked to verify your information before the trade is submitted to the market. Should you experience a problem with a trade, you will receive an explanation on your private message board as to why the trade was not accepted.
Once your trade has been accepted, you can check its status through the Open Orders Report. As soon as your trade is executed, you can view it on the Order Execution Report. A confirmation notice will be posted to your secure message board and you'll receive a written confirmation a few business days following your trade date.
Security
We realize how important the privacy and security of your online financial information is to you, so we've taken every precaution we can to safeguard your account. There are two kinds of security you'll encounter on our site: Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology and password protection.
Whenever you place a trade or access personal account information, your transaction is encrypted through Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology, disguising the information so that only authorized Ameriprise Financial representatives can view it. To support SSL, you need to have an SSL-capable browser.
E-mail is generally not encrypted by SSL, so when you ask us a question about your account, we won't send our answer by e-mail. Instead, we'll respond directly to the personal, secure message board within your account.
In order to safeguard your trading activity, we've taken extra precautions by establishing two levels of password protection. The first level of protection is your log-in name and password. You'll need these to access your account information and use our services. The second level of protection is a trading password you are required to enter each time you place a trade. When you log in to your account for the first time, we ask that you change both of your passwords so that you are the only person who knows them.
We suggest that you select passwords that are difficult to guess — avoid creating passwords that reflect familiar terms to you, such as your child's name or your birthday.
